Shaker Card

Many, many years ago I was taught how to make a shaker card using a bought tri-fold aperture card. It was so complicated and bulky, I've never made another one since.  However, seeing shaker cards now which are made with a frame attached to the front of a card blank, I decided to have a go at making one for the Butterfly Challenge, which this fortnight is to use sequins.
The embossing folder was a free one with a magazine.  I used one of my tapestry stamps to stamp around the die-cut frame.  The butterfly punch is by Stampin' Up and the purple and silver heart shaped sequins were on the table at a wedding some time ago as decoration, so I collected them up at the end before they were thrown away.  I knew they would be useful one day!  Lots of snippets used today, so I'll be sharing my card over at the Playground this week.

I would like to enter my card for the following challenges:

  1. A perfect shaker card. The sequins came into their own in the end. I love the colours you have used and the embossing folder too. Thankyou for fluttering by # 32. Hugs Mrs A.

  2. This is so pretty and a wonderful design. I rarely make shaker cards as my sequins and stuff always stick to my raised foam edge...will have to check google for a better way to make them.
Yours looks great and love that you upcycled the sequins.

  3. What a lovely take on a shaker card. Typical crafter, "tidying up" the sequins at a wedding!

  4. Oh how pretty Liz! Like Mo, I shy away from shaker cards as the sequins etc. always stick to the raised foam edge. I know there must be a secret - possibly dabbing a little bit of talc over the exposed edges to whatever. Anyhow, yours is gorgeous and I did giggle about you saving the sequins - as Jane says, there's a typical crafter for you!

    Hugs

  5. This is a super shaker card Liz, I love the colours and the embossing, and it's a great way to use your "saved" sequins.
I also learnt how to make shaker cards with a tri-fold aperture card and haven't made one for years. I have seen several made this way lately though and keep thinking I must give it a try.

    1. It is so much easier this way, Jean. I didn't have a problem with the sequins sticking to the foam tape doing it this way. xx

  8. That embossing folder is sweet. The freebies you get with your magazine are so cool. I love that you snagged the sequins from a wedding. Way to recycle. They are perfect in your shaker box.

  9. I've never tried a shaker card (so many techniques I've not tried!). And I'm always blown away by the free magazine items you UK folks get to use. This EF is wonderful, and what a fab card for this Butterfly challenge. I love your recycling too! TFS & Hugs
